Preparing for the UK: Visa and Entry Requirements
Getting ready to join us at Oxbridge Insights (OI) is a major milestone, and securing the proper entry permissions is a vital first step. Depending on your passport, you will likely need either a Standard Visitor Visa or an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) to enter the UK.
Disclaimer
Oxbridge Insights provides this information for educational and planning purposes only. We cannot handle, expedite, or influence border control decisions or application timelines. Securing valid legal entry to the UK remains the sole responsibility of the attendee.

If your home country does not have a visa-exempt agreement with the United Kingdom, you must secure a Standard Visitor Visa prior to your departure.
Duration
Valid for stays lasting up to 6 months, which fully covers our summer programs.
Cost
The current processing fee is £135, payable through the official web portal.
When to Apply
You can initiate your paperwork up to 3 months before your trip. We highly advise applying as early as possible, as processing timelines take several weeks.
Core Requirements
A current passport that remains valid throughout your entire stay.
A submitted digital application via the official GOV.UK portal.
Evidence of your study plans (such as your OI acceptance letter), proof of financial self-sufficiency, and documentation showing strong ties to your home country.
Resources: Check your specific nationality requirements via the UK Visa Eligibility Tool and read the comprehensive rules on the Standard Visitor Visa Overview.
What to Do in Case of a Refusal
If your application is denied, try not to panic. Rejections usually stem from administrative errors, missing files, or unclear financial paperwork.
Analyze the Letter
Review the formal government notification to understand exactly why your application was turned down.
Amend the Errors
Gather the missing evidence or correct any inaccuracies highlighted by the immigration officer.
Submit a New File
File a fresh application with the corrected documentation well ahead of your travel date.
Please note: OI has no authority over UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) and cannot reverse a refusal, but we can issue fresh enrollment letters if required.

Navigating Airport Transfers: Getting to Your Campus
Arriving in a new country is exciting, and planning your onward travel in advance ensures a smooth start to your program. Most students attending Oxbridge Insights (OI) arrive via London’s two primary international hubs: London Heathrow (LHR) or London Gatwick (LGW).Whether your destination is Oxford or Cambridge, you can choose between highly efficient public transit or our dedicated private transfer service.
Long-Distance Coaches (Buses)
The Airline (Oxford Bus Company)
A specialized, direct coach service linking Oxford to both Heathrow and Gatwick. Travels take roughly 80–90 minutes from Heathrow and 2 to 2.5 hours from Gatwick.
National Express
Frequent direct routes connect both major airports to the central Oxford Bus Station. Expected travel times range from 90 minutes from Heathrow to about 1.5–2 hours from Gatwick. Advanced single tickets generally cost between £20 and £25.
Rail Travel
National Rail
Trains from Heathrow or Gatwick to Oxford are not direct and require changing trains (typically at Reading or in central London). While sometimes quick, maneuvering heavy luggage through busy transfer stations can be challenging for students traveling alone.
Oxbridge Insights Private Transfer Service
For maximum peace of mind, OI provides an optional Private Airport Pick-Up Service from Heathrow and Gatwick directly to both campuses. This service is open to all attendees, regardless of age.
Essential Rules for Students Under 18
If you are under the age of 18 and flying to the United Kingdom without an adult, a private vehicle transfer is mandatory. You can book this directly through Oxbridge Insights or arrange it independently with a private company.
Why this matters
The UK Border Force enforces strict safety protocols for unaccompanied minors. Border officers frequently interview young travelers to verify who is meeting them. Failures to show a concrete, verified transit plan can result in severe customs delays or entry refusal.
If booking independently
You must ensure your hired driver meets the student inside the airport arrivals terminal and drives them directly to their assigned college residential building.
Benefits of a Private Transfer

Direct Transit
Enjoy seamless, door-to-door transportation without wrestling with heavy bags on trains or buses.
Total Flexibility
Perfect for flights landing late at night or departing early in the morning.
Safety & Comfort
Highly recommended for younger students and individuals visiting the UK for the first time.

Contact Our TeamHealth and Travel Insurance: Staying Protected Abroad
Securing comprehensive insurance is a critical element of your pre-departure planning. While the Oxbridge Insights (OI) team works around the clock to support student well-being during the program, we cannot provide medical treatments, fund healthcare expenses, or take the place of formal insurance. In the event of an accident, illness, or emergency, students must rely on their personal coverage. Arranging this protection before you fly ensures you can focus entirely on your academic experience with total peace of mind.
Mandatory Medical Insurance
Every attending student must possess valid health insurance that spans the exact duration of their stay in the United Kingdom. This mandatory coverage ensures you can access necessary care, ranging from minor clinic visits to emergency hospital stays.
Your policy must explicitly include:
Emergency Care
Full coverage for urgent hospital treatment and unexpected medical emergencies.
Routine Care
Compensation for local doctor consultations and prescribed pharmaceuticals.
Repatriation
Financial provisions for medical evacuation back to your home country if required.
Note
All participants are required to carry physical or digital proof of their insurance coverage with them throughout the trip.
Information for European Students (EU/EEA/Switzerland)
While you can use a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) or a Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) to access subsidized UK state healthcare, these cards are not a replacement for full insurance. They do not cover private care, certain prescriptions, or emergency repatriation, meaning supplementary private medical insurance is still mandatory.
Travel Insurance: Strongly Recommended
While medical insurance covers your body, travel insurance protects your journey and your belongings. We highly advise all families to purchase a comprehensive travel policy to cover non-medical disruptions.
A typical travel policy protects against:
Property Loss
Reimbursement for misplaced, stolen, or damaged personal items and luggage.
Transit Disruptions
Financial protection against sudden flight delays, cancellations, or missed connections.
Program Interruptions
Coverage for expenses if you must cut your trip short due to an emergency.
Legal Protections
Coverage for personal liability and emergency travel assistance.
Vital Reminders Before You Buy
No Institutional Coverage
OI does not issue insurance policies and will not cover any student’s medical bills or travel loss claims.
Residence Verification
Your policy must be officially issued in your country of legal residence and remain fully active from the day you depart until the day you return.
Read the Fine Print
Carefully inspect your policy details for coverage caps, specific exclusions, and clauses regarding pre-existing medical conditions.
